About JM Germany
Cultural Organization across all Borders
Jeunesses Musicales (JM) Germany is the German section of JM International. The latter was founded in Brussels during the Second World War with the aim of fostering understanding and peaceful international encounter of young musicians. Active in more than 50 countries across the globe, JM International is reckoned to be the world’s largest organization for youth and culture. Weikersheim, entitled “JM World Meeting Center” is a meeting point for young musicians from all over the world.
Community of Youth Orchestras
About 300 young orchestras, ranging from music school orchestras to the Young German Philharmonic, are united under the organisational umbrella of JM Germany. And their number continues to grow. JM Germany‘s initiatives and projects inspire and motivate youth orchestras in their work. Young people experience being part of a community and learn to take responsibility for the joint success of the group. With spirit and charm the member orchestras of JM Germany enrich the musical lives of their communities.
Motor and Inspiration for Cultural Life
JM Germany organises courses and exemplary projects, competitions and awards, concerts and events and actively engages in the discourse about cultural politics. It gives voice to young musicians, for instance by being an active member of the German Music Council. The “neue musikzeitung” Germany's most important monthly music review is the official news channel and partner of JM Germany.
Platform for Young Musicians
JM Germany runs the Music Academy Schloss Weikersheim with a manifold course programme, ranging from the Children’s Cello Camp to audition training. The Academy offers youth orchestras and ensembles ideal conditions for rehearsal weeks and music camps. Moreover, the association of JM Germany provides young musicians multiple opportunities for participation and engagement, such as in the youth initiative “mu:v – Musik verbindet” (“music connects”). Through mu:v, JM Germany stays dynamic and continues to evolve into a community of young musicians, offering them a platform for formulating and asserting their interests.
Vibrant Network for Music
JM Germany is active via its members (youth orchestras, personal members, honorary members), its voluntary staff in the board of the federal organisation and in the regional departments, as well as through the staff of the General Secretariat in Weikersheim. Leading musicians, professors and important figures in the cultural sector have an affinity for JM Germany’s work and goals and campaign for the interests of young musicians.
